Protective Sealants

Here at Watch Dental, we believe in the concept of healthy teeth for life.

Many teeth are at risk of dental decay, especially in patients who consume food and drinks containing sugar. Certain teeth are more at risk from dental decay than others, in particularly the back teeth which usually contain a complex network of pits and fissures in their surface anatomy.

Evidence and experience has shown that these back teeth are most likely to decay from sugar, especially on the biting surfaces.

Fissure sealants help to protect the teeth from decay by providing a thin protective coating to seal the back teeth and, when combined with an adequate brushing technique with fluoride toothpaste, can substantially reduce the incidence of dental decay.

Fissure sealants are appropriate to all ages but are often placed on children who's teeth are particularly at risk during the common sweet eating school age.
